answers1: Personal philosophy of life — success & Winners
Every one of us, unconsciously, works out a personal philosophy of
life, by which we are guided, inspired, and corrected, as time goes
on. It is this philosophy by which we measure out our days, and by
which we advertise to all about us the man, or woman, that we are. . .
. It takes but a brief time to scent the life philosophy of anyone. It
is defined in the conversation, in the look of the eye, and in the
general mien of the person. It has no hiding place. It's like the
perfume of the flower — unseen, but known almost instantly. It is the
possession of the successful, and the happy. And it can be greatly
embellished by the absorption of ideas and experiences of the useful
of this earth.
answers3: Have you ever read the philosophy of Karl Marx? Here it is
in a nut shell...Society views the government as God, no one in
society is allowed to fail because the government wont let them, and
no one in society is allowed to excel for the same reason.

He sees the path of least resistance as the key to happiness. The
reason I disagree with that philosophy is simple...you can't build
character on that road. It's a path where men are given the power to
legislate another man's potential, and it's wrapped up in a beautiful
package that makes everyone "feel" ok about it.
answers4: Hard to say. First he says he's atheist now he says he
believes in a god. Some people do anything to get a seat in the white
house, including forging a birth certificate
answers5: Once you go black you don't go back.

answers7: idk ask the dudes paying him har harrrrrr
answers8: It can be anything. It may be love and pursuit of wisdom by
intellectual means. Or he may like to investigate about the causes and
laws underlying the reality. Also he may like to Inquiry into the
nature of things based on logical reasoning.

Why is everyone against the Supporters of Performing Arts (SOPA), like seriously?
answers1: Well what about those people who like to sing and post a
video on youtube singing there favorite song! they wont be able to if
this law passes
answers2: I am not sure if this question is supposed to be sarcastic
or not, but I will answer anyway.

People here are referring to SOPA the ''Stop Online Piracy Act''.

The reason people are angry about it and against it is because it
gives the government more power to censor the internet. I myself am
also against it. This piece of legislation is a very serious threat to
personal liberty long term, as it could make way for even more
aggressive legislation.

The DMCA already covers the issue it is trying to solve anyway. It is
not just a bad piece of legislation, it is unnecessary.
answers3: Yes seriously
answers4: I see nobody laughing.

performing arts school or public school?
answers1: Do what you want, go to the art school. If your friend
truely cares for you, she won't mind you embracing your dreams. You
can still talk to your friends, and hang out with them. Don't care
what your friends think because if they are mad about you doing
something you want they aren't your friends. I'm sure they will miss
you, but that's okay. You guys are going to split up when you
graduate in a couple years anyway. I say go for it, because this will
probably ultimately make you happier. Who knows- maybe you'll make
new friends who share your passion. You can keep those friends, and
your old friends. Trust me, it'll be fine! Part of life is taking
risks.

And I'm positive there'll be more musicians at a Performing Arts
school. It'll be filled with tons of people who understand your
passion.

Performing arts high school?
answers1: I think this was very good. I like how you explained the
school's setting and what the schedule will be like. You went really
into depth with what the school is about which can help the reader
figure out if this school is really for them. I myself liked reading
it because i love performing and I'm more of an artistic person and
this school sounded like something i would love to be apart of. One
thing you can work on is probably describing how this school affects
the child's behavior or future attending this school. Does this school
promise them a future career in arts? Does this school have different
behavior outcomes then other average schools? Just questions to think
about but overall you did great. :)
answers2: One of my friends named Shelby goes to a Performing Arts
High School. She said that it is really fun and gets you on the right
track to a professional career. Plus, Shelby goes for free! (So maybe
you can too!) Good Luck this year! [: She goes to one in New Jersey. I
forget the name of it though. I'm sorry. You can look up Performing
Art High Schools in the New Jersey area. (She lives near Ocean City if
that helps.)
answers3: There are A LOT of grammatical errors.
answers4: my school has that music thing too. we call it walking
music. its cool. one day it didnt work, and i was so lost with out it.
answers5: I was interested.
answers6: To me, it seemed like one big long run on sentence. Very
interesting, just work on your punctuation and spelling.

what are some basic requirements for performing arts high schools?
answers1: You don't need to worry
A performing arts school is just a school with extra classes like art,
dance, acting
But those electives are optional
answers2: My daughter is a grad of LaGuardia Arts. H.S. (the Fame
school) in NYC. Many of the PA schools are patterned after her school.
Her audition was a ballet class followed by a modern class. Then a
solo when asked back. That is pretty standard for most P.A. High
Schools (with or without the addition of a solo.) You will not find
Lyrical dance or anything competition dance like in a P.A. school. The
reason for this is that they are looking to get you ready for college
or conservatory dance programs and being that lyrical only exists in
small studios and competition dance and not in professional dance, you
wont find it in their curriculum. You will need strong clean ballet
technique. It is not important if you can do tricks or how many
fouette turns you can do. It is important that your technique is
strong and clean. That you land everything well and have good
alignment. They will be looking for solid dancers. Pointe is also not
that important. The school will be contemporary based which means
ballet and modern classes. That is what the majority of college
programs are.
If you can up your basic ballet technique that would be your best
preparation. Even taking some beginner classes to reinforce and
strengthen your technique and alignment. The modern they will expect
to teach you in school. The ballet they want you to come with already.
At my daughters school they did a 90 minute ballet class followed by a
90 minute modern class everyday. The second half of the day was
academics. After school many students took additional classes at their
ballet academies or dance academies like SAB, BAE or Alvin Ailey or
other schools in the area. On occasion they added a tap class , jazz
class , or theater dance class to the school curriculum, but that took
up only a very small part of the dancing program.
Good luck!

High School Performing Arts NYC?
answers1: wow I am on the same page :)
sorry if my answer isn't going to help at all but just think; I can do
this, be full of confidence don't think the worst think the best. Like
what if I mess up something don't think that, rather think I won't
mess up something because I know what I'm doing and I'm just going to
do this for my self.
You could always audition at many schools and see what school wants to
take you in and accept the best opportunity. Just don't give up on
your self and do your best.
Good luck with your future and getting into a great school. :)
I wish you all the best.
answers3: There are many great places to learn about any kind of arts
in NYC. I know of a few that I can tell you about but I'd rather just
show you, check my source.
answers4: I am a NYC public school teacher and my daughter is applying
to high school this year. She is interested in arts high schools, so I
happen to know a lot about Laguardia right now. (Her audition for that
school is next week, BTW.)

The truth is, I would have told you exactly what that email told you.
You cannot enter Laguardia in 11th grade. They only audition 8th
graders for seats in the 9th grade class, or 9th graders for seats in
the 10th grade class. All the specialized schools in NYC are like
that.

In fact, it is unlikely that you could enter any of the better
performing arts schools in NYC in 11th grade.

As for auditioning for an earlier grade, Laguardia DOES allow people
who are moving to NYC to audition in August for either the 9th or 10th
grade class. However you MUST be able to prove residency at that time.
If you were going to move here a year earlier you might be able to do
that.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Oh and I just re-read your question and saw what you wrote about
Julliard having only a 7 percent acceptance rate. Well, Laguardia's
acceptance rate is only between 7 and 10 percent as well (depending on
which studio you are auditioning for - acting, vocal, instrumental,
fine art, dance, stage design, etc.)

EDIT: I re-read your question again and I realize that you are asking
for any schools other than Laguardia as well.

The other really good performing arts school in NYC (in Queens) is the
Frank Sinatra High School of the Arts. I don't know if they take
anyone in 11th grade. I doubt it truthfully, but you could write to
them.

Also, in Manhattan, for the performing arts only, is Talent Unlimited,
a public school on the Upper East Side.

There are other performing arts schools, but these are the only good
ones that are easily accessible from Manhattan.

In Brooklyn (but for Brooklyn residents only) is Murrow High School -
a really large school with a great arts program. But you have live in
Brooklyn to attend and it's also very hard to get into.

What are your favorite history topics?
answers1: The history of the Crusades in the defense of the Holy Land.
History of African colonisation- by the arab muslims and portugese.
answers2: I like the history of human kind and life before humans
began to write or even paint. Since one guy (who?) said of written
history, ""History is a butcher's bench.", history before this was
cleaner, without war. I suppose a lover of written history would not
call this "History" but anthropology or archeology. From its' period
we all evolved. We can learn a lot from it.

North American History Or European History?
answers1: European History, because Europe is much older than the
Americas and Europe is a continent with more than 50 countries that
all have had different kingdoms, nations, experiences, cultures, and
historical events from ancient to present time.
answers2: North American history is EXTREMELY young.

European history is MUCH, MUCH older, the only older history is Middle
Eastern & African history.
Africa is the "cradle of humankind", the Middle East is the "cradle of
civilation" and Europe is "cradle of human expansion".

Yes, people have lived in North America, but there is no written
history of the natives. South America DID have a type of written
history with the Incas, the Aztecs, and the Mayans, but the European
history came directly from the Middle East, and is therefore older.

Ancient Greece is part of European history.
answers3: Both are equally interesting and fascinating, in my OP.
answers4: European history!

Accepted American history is full of arrogance, over patrioticness,
vague explanations, and outright lies
answers5: a thousand years ago in north america you are looking at
natives and the tribes hunters and gatherers - some structures were
build in mexico by the aztecs etc

in europe you are looking at the building of castles - crusades into
muslim lands - kings - queens - war - famine - conquest - art - roads
- building - stuctured societies - nations - language - writing -
religion - education -
answers6: go for European history there are more sources and it's way
more interesting in my opinion.
answers7: European history, thats what I do in my degree, wouldn't go
anywhere near the American modules, but it's personal preference I
guess. The American stuff is later and tends to be more political and
I prefer early social history; medieval and early modern marriage,
family, sexuality, etc., it's much more interesting!

Evolutionary Christians: How do you reconcile Adam with the genealogy in Luke?
answers1: Adam is the Hebrew word for human being ("earth creature,"
if you want to be picky).

Gen. 1 is very allegorical in use of the term. It states that God
created Ada, in His image, in the image of God. Male and female
created he them (adam).

There are two conflicting genealogies in the Gospels, showing that the
whole matter is just symbolic.
answers2: Evolution is not compatible with Christianity full stop. I
don't know how anyone can fool them self to believe both, its
ridiculous.
answers3: Adam lived and that is a fact. Your 10000 years is not a for
sure because the Bible does not state how long it took Adam and Eve to
loose immortality.
There is a concept used in science called Uniformitarianism that all
things continue as they now are. But this assumption is known to be
false. Artic research has shown the oxygen levels change, our own life
time shows that major changes can and do take place. In my own life
time the mechanical mechanisms for time have had to be adjusted
because they no longer measured a year or day right.
So we know that a basic assumption for guessing at time is wrong.
Weather patterns shift and with it the amount of rain fall and many
other things change. But under uniformitarianism this is not allowed.
So the petrified forest for example could not exist and there is no
way for coal or even oil to form. But they are and under the present
conditions they would have to be a lot older then they are in reality.
So I feel no need to reconcile numbers based on a false assumption
with something that is a recorded event.
answers4: christian belief in evolution is weak faith in God's word
answers5: The Bible is chock full of inconsistencies.
Many of our more conservative pastors never mention this. If you ask
them, they will never give an explanation.

When Christians begin to ask the difficult questions, they are left
without a pastor.
The real reason the Catholic church did not want the Bible written in
the language of the common people may be that there were too many
errors and contradictions and the leaders worried it would challenge
faith.
There is no explanation for this.

How do I make a Genealogy?
answers1: I'm assuming you are wanting to put together a "family
tree". Start with yourself and go backwards: i.e your siblings, your
parents, their siblings and parents, etc. It's always easier to go
with one parent at a time. I'd go with the parent that has the most
family that I'm familiar with.

If you're doing this for a History class, it might not have to be your
family. In that case, there will be a lot more research involved. If
you have a choice, I'm sure your own family will be easiest.

Ask your parents who their parents were, and if they knew their
grandparents. You could rely on relatives (aunts, uncles etc) or old
family friends.
answers2: Genealogy means finding your ancestry. You would start with
pulling your own birth certificate to confirm who your parents are
(women use maiden names). Yes..always use the record, even with what
you "know". Next, use a record of the parents, to learn who their
parents were.
You can also work verbally with asking family if they are accessible.
Your main issue is time. Genealogy normally takes time, if you want to
go back many generations. Some teachers make the assumption that we
all have knowledge of immediate family.. and that is not always
correct.
a branch that goes up and right and one that goes up and left. These
are your mom and your dad. From each of them make two branches that go

Why does the genealogy of Jesus trace back through Joesph...?
answers1: It was planned by God for 42 generations! It may have also
been because God knew Joseph would be good and true to Mary! God
already knew Jopseph's heart before he was born.
answers2: God said that the Messiah would come from the line of David
AND sit on the throne of David. The only way to make those two things
happen would be if both Mary and Joseph were related to David. Jewish
law recognized adopted children as actual children so Jesus can claim
His right to be king from His earthly father Joseph and He can claim
His relation to David through His mother.

If the Davidic line of kings had remained in place, Joseph would have
been the king, but since God has to be the Father of the Messiah (and
not Joseph), Mary also had to be from David.

This is to fulfill completely the prophecy that He would be from the
Tribe of Judah, the Root of David, and sit on the throne of David.
answers3: They were being thorough. They also show Mary's lineage
which also comes from the family of David.
answers4: God's purpose was that a seed would come forth from the line
of Abraham and David. It is true that Jesus had no human father, but
it was important that both human parents were descendants of that
family line to keep in line with God's promise and purpose, even
though Joseph was Jesus' stepfather. So, the lineage found in Matthew
is that of Mary. The one in Luke is Joseph's. You'll notice that the
two lineages are the same up until David, then two different sons of
David are named. The first, found in the book of Matthew is Solomon
from whom Mary was a descendant. Then, in the book of Luke, David's
son Nathan is named of whom Joseph was a descendant.
answers5: I passes through both Mary and Jesus-
I know, you don't care what I think

but both Joseph and Mary trace their lineage back to David.
answers6: If you look at the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Luke,
you will realize that 2 different genealogies are reported for Jesus.
At first sight, it seems like they both refer to Joseph's line, but
when you look more into details, you see that the genealogy described
in Luke refers to Mary's line. In fact Heli was Mary's father. Now, in
ancient times, when a man did not have male descendants, his
daughter's husband would become his son and continue the line (in
order to ensure inheritance, only given to the sons). Therefore Heli
literally adopted Joseph when he married Mary.
In the same way, Joseph legally adopted Jesus when He was born of the
Virgin Mary. Therefore Jesus came to be part of the family.
Interestingly, both Mary's and Joseph's lines lead to David. This is
why it is said of Jesus that He was the Son of David
answers7: One of the requirements for being the Jewish Messiah is
being descended from David. Therefore, all gospels that seek to
demonstrate the messiahdom of Jesus give a geneology back to David.
The two such gospels that made it into the bible are Luke and Matthew.
They give inconsistent answers (the apologists say that one lineage is
that of Mary, the other of Joseph). The lineage in Matthew is clearly
absurd, because it also attempts to span a thousand years in only 14
generations.

It all makes sense when you realize it's just a myth.
answers8: Only one genology does, the other goes through Mary...ALSO
through David.
I think Matthew tracks Josephs, because to the Jews lineage through
the father is important...even if it's a step father. To all of the
Jews, Jesus was the son of Joseph. Matthew's gospel is written for the
Jewish perspective. Luke (who wrote Mary's geneology) was written
with a Greek perspective
answers9: Jesus' lineage goes back to David through Mary, his earthly mother.
answers10: It was also traced through Mary (Luke 3:23-38). Joseph's
lineage was listed as another reference since a woman's ancestry
generally wasn't considered valid in that society at that time. But
through her marriage to Joseph, it became valid as well (Numbers
36:6-7).

UM HELP?????????GENEALOGY PROJECT?
answers1: If your grandparents are alive, call and ask them who their
parents and grandparents were. That will give you five generations.
That should be enough for any project.

You are still in high school. Your parents were (probably) 20 - 40
when they had you, and theirs were 20 - 40 when they had them.

So, assuming you are 16,

You were born 1993
Your parents 1953 - 1973
Your grandparents 1913 - 1953.

Those are the averages; your parents could be just 16 years older than
you, and your grandparents just 32 years older. Your father could be
60 years older than you, and your grandfather 120 years. Those are
extremes that are physically possible but unlikely.

Except for the dead people on the Social Security Death Index, most of
the people on the genealogy sites were born before 1900. So, chances
are you won't find anyone you know on any of the genealogy sites.

African-Americans are harder because
1) The white record keepers didn't care as much about them;
record-keeping was sloppy.

2) Most of them have just English surnames, so it is hard to tell all
those men anmed "John Robinson" apart. (White people usually have
Irish, Scots, German and English, if they've been in the USA for more
than 3 - 4 generations). (White people in England have the same
problem; so do Mexicans, only it is page after page of "Juan Garcia".)

3) You dead end with people alive in 1870, thanks to slavery.

4) Before the 1950's a tragic number of them were poorly educated;
enough so that they didn't spell all that consistently. (White people
in West Virginia, Arkansas and Kentucky have the same problem.)

If you wanted to spend a good year, 2 - 3 hours a night, 3 - 4 nights
a week, you could complete a family tree back to 1870, probably,
although some branches would be shorter than others. If you don't,
save your mother's money. You can't learn to be a genealogist in the
five days until Friday.
