Rona Espalin: get the book" back to basics" it will tell you all you nees to know about xrewing beer or wine
Shon Almquist: Yes it is! just learned about it in my Environmental Science class, the water from your hose is the exact same that goes through the pipes of your sink and toilet. It only tastes different because of the hose.
Alden Soldano: I used to drink out of the garden hose all the time... however when you heat plastics of any kind there can be chemicals or other toxins that are released by heat... I would recommend purchasing tubing that is meant to be heated and used for food.
Lu Snide: In the USA the FDA and NSF are the organizations that determine the materials that are suitable for use with POTABLE (drinking) water.Your common Garden Hose is NOT made from materials that meet those requirements. There are some garden hose assemblies on the market that are made from NSF or FDA approved materials, keep in mind this must include the fittings ! and the gasket, so watch out if you are repairing the hose or replacing the gasket in the future.Almost NONE of the Garden Hoses are suitable with the BOILING WATER you described due to the temperature involved!!!In almost all situations where water at or near the BOILING POINT are required, special hoses, couplings, and assemblies are required, due to the HAZARDOUS nature! In the Brewing Industry special SANITARY style couplings, to inhibit bacteria growth, are generally the norm. (There are a number of designs / styles) These assemblies are often designed for a CIP (Clean In Place) operation. My suggestion is to check out a home brewing supplier, so as to get materials that are suitable to your specific requirements....Show more
Delphine Cajka: I have been brewing beer for 5 years now and I have used the same garden hose for 2 of those. There is no difference that I have noticed. However, I would buy some food grade hose from the home brew supply store if I had the ca! sh.
Providencia Jalbert: If you're brewing beer, I would! recommend NOT using any garden hoses in the process. Your local brewing supply store or even most online brewing supply sites will have hoses that will have the proper tubing that you will need.
