Ivan Velazquez: Depending on the disease there are treatments to alleviate/ease symptoms but there is no way to reverse the effects of the body. With medication you can feel more energized but the disease is still taking it's course. Mitochondrial diseases usually take place on the dna level of the mitochondria. the Mitochondria are such a basic level of bodily function that if they're are anyhow defect some part of the organism will not work right. Mitochondrial diseases range from certain types of Diabetes to certain types of Parkinson's. Both diseases are treatable up until a certain point but you can't reverse the major symptoms. But after that point the disease has progressed so far that medications do little to nothing. In the course of my training i've seen diabetics where not even injected insulin works anymore and Parkinson's patients where a dopamine pump doesn't help...Show more
