Rosella Figliola: You probably would need investors and/or a hefty loan from a bank. You would need to have a business plan, and probably an MBA or a degree in Entrepreneurship at least to secure a big loan like that, and also probably experience in the movie theatric business.
Pattie Vold: I don't think theaters or IMAX are franchised(sold) to private owners. Each chain sets up theaters where they think they will get the most business. There are no single theaters (except IMAX) any more. Theaters are all in large cineplexs with 20 or more screens. The cost of an individual owning and running a cineplex would be about $20-$50 MILLION dollars or MORE. Theaters are no longer making money. Most are losing money becuase the cost of tickets and popcorn is so expensive. People prefer to stay home and watch Netflix or other live-streaming venues. All theaters are now run by mega-corporations. The only exception would be small town theaters where there is only one screen. T! hose still might be privately owned and might sometimes go up for sale...but that is VERY VERY RARE.The short answer to your question is people cannot open a theater on their own....Show more
