Keven Drumgole: Reading is the best education for any aspiring writer. Good poets read hundreds, thousands, of poems for every one that they write. Some of the things you'll learn as you read good poetry: Concrete images -- descriptions of things that readers can see, hear, touch, taste, and smell -- are more powerful that vague abstractions about Love, Truth, Justice, Nature, etc. Specific details are more powerful than generalizations. Nouns and verbs do most of the heavy lifting. Well-chosen adjectives and adverbs are valuable, but they are the decorative trim, not the load-bearing walls and beams. There are millions of other lessons to learn, but those are a good start. It's easy to ignore advice from malicious twits who offer nothing but praise of themselves and insults for everybody else. It's harder, but just as necessary, to ignore advice from those well-intentioned yet clueless souls who tell you that writing poetry is all about inspiration and paying attent! ion to what's in your heart. Cathedrals aren't built from the glory of God. They're built from stone that has been shaped and assembled by artisans who spent years mastering their trade. Automobile engines aren't made out of speed and power. They're made out of precisely crafted metal parts. Similarly, poems aren't made of beauty, romance, wisdom, love of nature, and the like. They're made of words put together by artists who have worked hard to understand how language works. The more good poetry you read, the more lessons you'll absorb from those have gone before you and done that hard work....Show more
Shane Getler: First off, read as much good poetry as you can find. Most of the stuff on Y!A isn't very good, so seek out such poets as Carol Ann Duffy, Philip Larkin and Nigel Forde. You'll find their poems on the internet. When you want to write, just write. Eventually you'll achieve your own voice, and will produce something that others will appreciate. That's ! what successful poetry is all about: communicating to kindred ! spirits.Best of luck!Edit:To the person who gave me a TD: I would be very interested to know what you disagree with in my answer, and if possible to see some of your own poetical works, if they exist....Show more
Cassey Hollinghurst: You should go out, to the park maybe. There you can get inspiration from the outside world. You can write how it feels to be in the breeze, etc, etc,.
Evelin Turlich: The Thing About Poetry Is That It Doesn't Have To Rhyme Or Make Sense, So If You Just Write What Your Felling The Words Will Pour Into Your Mind.

Forest Duttinger: i replaced into in 6th grade while i began out writing poetry. For some reason, i replaced into dealing with a no longer hassle-free time and that day my "pal" replaced into in basic terms being terrible... so I went residing house and wrote a poem. It replaced into extraordinary because of the fact my mom concept i r! eplaced into dyslexic until eventually i replaced into like 11 (I used to in no way examine). so as that replaced into particularly my intro to literature. i've got been interpreting and writing like loopy ever for the reason that. presently i've got not been writing. i think of that's because of the fact for the 1st time in a collectively as, i'm chuffed. and that i do in basic terms no longer comprehend a thank you to jot down chuffed stuff. i think like I could desire to be unhappy to jot down... which sucks. i'm hoping i'm able to start returned, yet i do no longer comprehend....Show more
Janeen Perona: In order to write good poetry you must first write a very great deal of bad poetry. Like archery takes some arrows to hit the bulls-eye, poetry requires practice.Choose a setting you find pleasant, then write your thoughts as they come out. Do that for an hour or so and take the notes and see what you can find and write about one of your thoughts. Then another. ! Then another. Repeat as needed until you write something you like.
