Monty Sieloff: Fossil fuels are conventional sources of energy that are depleting rapidly and we'll have no more of them in a century...water,wind and solar energy are non-conventional sources of energy that will never run out, so we can depend on these to serve our needs for ever.
Pamela Meno: There is plenty of oil within the lower 48 states of the US, the problem is the US foreign policy uses the crude oil issue as a means of foreign aid.Dependable alternatives are natural gas and gasified coal. Coal used to be gassified prior to WW2 and sold as "Manufactured gas. You can run these in an internal combustion engine, or you can use them in a fuel cell. The real problem is too few people control the oil production and refining. They are using the same business model as the DeBeers family has used for diamonds....Show more
Marya Fehn: Go Hemp! The hydrocarbons in hemp could be used as a renewable, low polluting alternative to fossil fuels that is non-polluti! ng to our atmosphere. Hemp is excellent in producing alternative fuels such as biodiesel and ethanol. Hemp could be processed into fuel pellets, liquid fuels, and gas, reducing our consumption of fossil fuels and nuclear power. Both the seed and the fiber can be used, though the process varies depending on what you use....Show more
Willa Holte: Water in NOT a fuel. What you can do is break water apart into hydrogen and oxygen and use the H for fuel. But to break it aparttakes a lot of energy
Letitia Bigelow: The water is first broken into its elemental components through electrolysis. The atoms are stripped of their electrons and they are used to power an electrical engine. The atoms now rebond, forming water. All this happens in what is called a fuel cell. The only byproduct is heat and water, thus steam and heat. This technology currently is being implemented in Oakland California in public transit. buses.
Rayford Speziale: Nuclear Power
Dorris Hom! ola: There is no other dependable type of fossil fuel. Water i! s not a fossil fuel. Basically we are going to run out of oil eventually. ( sooner rather than later if we don't drill in certain parts of Alaska) We could dramatically lengthen the time we have to use the oil if we, in America alone, cut back on unnecessary use. The fact is that we use more than our share here in the good ol' U.S. of A
Arlen Lopiccalo: The fossil fuels are Coal, gas and oil. Peat is an ancient fuel but not a fossil fuel. Wood is a renewable fuel that is only usually harvested after several seasons. Everything else is usually available within one growing season or on a daily basis. Often we concentrate energy before we use it. Sometimes when concentrating a fuel we transfer it to a stable form with a shelf-life. Fossil fuels are highly concentrated and are very stable forms of stored energy. This is in part what makes them dependable. Another factor leading to our dependency upon a fuel is that it is relatively cheap. This is where many alter! natives to fossil fuels begin to break down. Although it has been shown that you can drive a car using hydrogen what is less obvious is whether the vehicle is driving on hydrogen that is being produced in an equal measure to what is being used. Some very expensive catalysts are used in some "car driving on water" demonstrations. In this way they are a bit of a scam. The demonstration suggests one thing is happening when in fact this is not the case.Demonstrations are intended to interest investment dollars. No one has suggested that they are about to build commercial water powered vehicles. This alone should suggest that they are not "dependable."...Show more
Buster Exline: an alternative fuel (not fossil fuel) is being produced from algae. Algae is grown using sunlight, carbon dioxide, and nutrients. Since algae has a rapid turnover rate, and genetically modified strains even more so, the growth period is short. The cells are then harvested, and the lipids are ! extracted and processed to make fuels. The best part is, algae don't ta! ke up field space like fields of corn for ethanol. They can be grown in tubs out in the desert.
