divorce through the newspaper?

Pam Rampadarat: they post your divorce in the newspaper if the person being served is nowhere to be found. Its a public print to try to contact the person if they are unable to locate them.

Bud Espenshade: No, this is inaccurate. The only reason a newspaper would be involved in a divorce is if you're filing a missing spouse divorce. You are required to place a Notice of Publication to notify your spouse of the divorce. They will then be given a certain amount of time to respond, if they don't, the divorce will be granted by default.

Thomas Riner: That's exactly what it is for. You need to contact the court house. My first husband disappeared (we'd been separated for a year), and when I went to file I had to file "divorce by publication". You have like 30 days (or something like that) to respond and if you don't then the judge approves the divorce as requested for the person who filed.
